Independent information on local businesses

Know more before you make the call.

OpenBook Local keeps an information sheet on each business: prices, deposits, warranties, licenses and policies, with the source of every fact. Anything a business hasn't told us is marked Not provided, not filled in with sales copy.

Recently updatedReports updated this month

Every report compares the same fields for each business, in alphabetical order. Sheets are rechecked at least every 90 days.

What a sheet looks likeEvery fact has a source. Every gap is labelled.

22 fields on every sheet, so gaps are visible. Reputation is added from public sources.

Why we show what's missing

Most directories fill every space with something. We'd rather tell you that a business hasn't shared its cancellation terms, because that's exactly the question to ask before you sign.

Why sources matter

"10-year warranty" means more when we've seen it in a contract than when it's on a homepage. Each line says which it is.

Why paying can't change it

Businesses can pay for a better-presented profile. They can't pay to remove an accurate negative fact or a Not provided label. They can only supply the information.

DisclosureHow OpenBook Local makes money

Businesses can pay for an enhanced profile: more photos, a contact form and statistics on who viewed their sheet. Those profiles are labelled . We may also be paid when you send a request through one of our forms.

Payment never changes the order of a report, an accurate negative fact or a Not provided label. Read the full disclosure.
