If a sheet says Not provided , this is where to ask. 1. **What exactly is in the price?** Get a line-by-line list: permits, materials, equipment, disposal and cleanup. 2. **How much is the deposit, and what are the payment stages?** Each payment should be tied to finished work you can see. 3. **How do you price changes after I sign?** Fixed written price per change, or cost plus a markup? What is the markup? 4. **Which warranty covers what, and for how long?** Ask for the warranty document itself, and whether it transfers if you sell the house. 5. **Who does the work?** Which parts are done by your own crew and which by subcontractors, and are the subcontractors licensed? 6. **Can I see your license and a current insurance certificate?** Check the license yourself on the state's license lookup, and ask the insurer to send the certificate. 7. **What happens if I cancel?** Before permits, after permits and after work starts: what do you keep, and what do you refund? 8. **When could you start, and what delays the finish?** Get the start date in writing, and ask how weather and inspections are handled. ## Section 7 Frequently asked questions Which HVAC contractors in Des Moines are included here?
